Williams Brings Upgrades to Canadian Grand Prix, Alex Albon Praises Team's Efforts

As the Formula 1 paddock heads to Montreal for the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix, Williams driver Alex Albon expressed his confidence in his team's ability to perform well with their upgraded car. With Williams currently sitting at the bottom of the constructors' standings, Albon praised his team for putting in a "huge job" and revealed his hopes that Circuit Gilles Villeneuve's medium downforce nature would suit their FW45.

Williams has had a difficult start to this season as they have only been able to score one point so far. Albon secured 10th place in Bahrain at the season-opener but hasn't been able to finish in points since then. However, ahead of this weekend’s race, Williams is set to bring “several upgrades” hoping their new components will help them improve performance.

Albon anticipates that Circuit Gilles Villeneuve could be more favorable than previous tracks and should play slightly more into the strengths of their car due primarily to its medium downforce setup.

“Heading into Canada, it’s always a bit of a tricky circuit," said Albon."However with it having more medium downforce; it should suit us a bit more than last couple of tracks."

The Thai driver was full of praise for Williams while recognizing what an important step this upgrade package represented. He said: “I'm looking forward to heading to Montreal as it’s a really nice atmosphere around the city. We have an upgrade coming for this weekend, so it should be interesting to see how it performs."

Williams Head of Vehicle Performance Dave Robson echoed these feelings saying that he expects them to be “more competitive” after running several upgraded components on Alexander Albon’s vehicle during qualifying rounds.

“The track in Montreal should play slightly more into our hands than Monaco or Barcelona did," said Robson."Furthermore we have several upgraded components available this week, which will run on Alex’s car only.”

He further added that the team were taking the time to understand if these new upgrades delivered as expected while they worked out their tyre strategy for both of their cars. Robson admitted that Montreal is a technical circuit, and Logan Sargeant, who is visiting the track for the first time, would need to rely heavily on his simulator preparation.

With tight walls and tricky kerbs at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve being a source of concern in past years among drivers due to tire degradation issues, Albon hopes that Williams' upgraded package can help them manage these challenges better. Furthermore, with some opportunities to overtake in Canada relative to Barcelona, there could be additional strategy options during Sunday's Grand Prix if tire degradation can be managed.

Williams will undoubtedly hope that its latest round of updates helps it improve from its current position at rock bottom in the constructors' standings. However, given how closely bunched up everyone seems to be this season so far, anything is possible.
