Sebastian Vettel is set to return to the Formula 1 cockpit after announcing his participation in a special Red Bull event that will take place on 9th September at the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Although retired from F1 since last year, Vettel has been widely recognized as one of the most talented drivers and champions in motorsport history.
The ‘Red Bull Formula Nurburgring’ event will bring both young and veteran drivers together demonstrating their skills at driving different types of machinery which include NASCAR, drift cars, and F1. The historic F1 track is famous for its challenging nature with significant elevation changes throughout its more than twelve-mile long lap.
Vettel's participation will reunite him with his dominant RB7 car that helped him clinched his second consecutive championship title in 2011. He won an impressive twelve Grands Prix out of nineteen races while taking eighteen pole positions during that season alone.
This time around though, it wouldn't be any ordinary run as e-fuel powers his RB7 car to help minimize emissions during this demo run event. E-fuels are synthetic carbon-neutral fuels made by using renewable energy sources like wind or solar power through electrolysis.
Daniel Ricciardo too would join this exciting showmanship behind the wheels of an RB8 from 2012 alongside Sebastian Vettel who was also earlier partnered with him while racing for Red Bull in the 2014 season.
The opportunity given to drive on one of Germany's legendary circuits "Nurburgring" is something that Vettel does not want to miss. “The myth of the Nordschleife resonated, even if we ‘only’ drove the GP track at the time," he said. "In any case, it will be great fun to drive my RB7 - fuelled with e-fuel - on the Nordschleife as part of a show run.”
Vettel has always shown a keen interest in environmental matters and believed that historic racing machinery could run on carbon-neutral fuel to help reduce emissions. He hopes that his participation can send out a positive message showing how synthetic CO2-neutral fuels can perform just as effectively.
“Motorsport is my passion,” Vettel added. “It's important to me to show that racing cars can run just as well and quickly with synthetic CO2-neutral fuel. And that is already today!”
This would be the first time since 2013 when F1 cars have driven at this famous circuit making it an event worth watching for all motorsports fans worldwide.
Michael Schumacher's Mercedes had participated in a demo lap during 2013’s Nurburgring 24-hours race, while Nick Heidfeld's BMW-Sauber was previous raced there back in 2007.
Overall, this special Red Bull event provides an excellent opportunity for enthusiasts worldwide to witness some spectacular performances by top-notch drivers who are coming together from different domains showcasing their skills driving various types of machinery including NASCARs and F1s of yesteryears while also demonstrating sustainable energy solutions through e-fuels.
