Pirelli's Legacy in Formula 1
Pirelli has been the sole supplier for Formula 1 since 2011. By the end of the latest agreement, including a possible extension, Pirelli will have been in F1 for 18 seasons. Throughout this period, Pirelli has successfully adapted to a series of sporting and technical changes. These include the delivery of 13-inch high degradation tyres in 2011, wider tyres in 2017, and the introduction of the current 18-inch rubber for 2022.
Formula 1 acknowledged Pirelli's positive engagement with drivers, teams, the FIA, and Formula 1 itself. The company has consistently delivered tyres that enable excellent racing, while continuously improving the product year on year through data analysis and feedback gathering.
Pirelli's Commitment to Sustainability
Pirelli has shown a strong commitment to research and development of sustainable tyre solutions. This aligns with the sustainability targets set by Formula 1, which aims to be Net Zero Carbon by 2030. From 2024, all tyres used in F1 events will be FSC-certified (Forest Stewardship Council). This certification confirms that the forest-based components of the tyres are managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits local communities and workers, while ensuring economic sustainability.
Praise for Pirelli's Partnership
Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, praised Pirelli for its invaluable partnership, commitment to quality, innovation, and deep knowledge of the sport. He also highlighted Pirelli's focus on sustainability, as evidenced by the FSC certification, and its contribution towards the shared Net Zero 2030 goal.
Marco Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli Executive Vice President and CEO, expressed delight at extending their presence in Formula 1. He emphasized Pirelli's commitment to innovation, technology, and sustainability, and the role of Formula 1 as an open-air laboratory for testing new technical solutions and accelerating research and development.
FIA President Mohamed Ben Sulayam also commended Pirelli for its ongoing support of motorsport, not only in Formula 1, but in many other championships and categories at every level.
Pirelli's Future in Formula 1
The new agreement confirms that Pirelli will also provide the tyres to Formula 2 and Formula 3. As Formula 1 approaches new regulations in 2026, Pirelli's commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability will be vital in the coming years. With this latest renewal, Pirelli will continue to be a protagonist throughout nearly two decades of the modern Formula 1 era.
