This development comes after an agreement with IFEMA MADRID, for the introduction of a new circuit within the Spanish capital. Spanning a decade, the deal aligns with F1's vision to create spectacular sporting events while embracing innovation and sustainability.

The Innovative Madrid Grand Prix Circuit

Drawn around IFEMA, a leading exhibition center, the proposed circuit will measure out at 5.47 kilometers. Subject to FIA homologation and a final design specification, the circuit will feature 20 corners, and a projected qualifying lap time of 1 minute 32 seconds could be on the cards.

The circuit aims to accommodate more than 110,000 fans a day across grandstand, general admission, and VIP hospitality. It's expected to grow to a daily capacity of 140,000 in the first half of the agreement, making Madrid one of the most substantial venues on the F1 calendar.

Location and Accessibility

Situated a mere five minutes from the Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suarez airport, the Spanish Grand Prix will become one of the most accessible races on the F1 calendar. Fans will find ease of access with commutes via Metro, train, and city lines short and convenient.

An impressive 90% of fans are estimated to be able to access the paddock via public transport, and those staying locally will be delighted to find that the venue is simply a short walk away.

Promoting Sustainability and Local Engagement

F1 is committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2030. IFEMA MADRID echoes this ambitious vision for the Spanish Grand Prix, which could potentially become one of the most sustainable F1 events. Over the past five years, IFEMA MADRID has greatly reduced carbon emissions and moved to using 100% certified renewable energy.

Various fan activations are planned to take place in Downtown Madrid as part of the event. There will also be engagement with local businesses and schools to ensure that the entire community shares in the benefits. It's also projected to add approximately €450m to the city’s economy per year.

Widespread Support and Enthusiasm

The proposal received large-scale support from government at all levels, including key stakeholders such as the Regional Government of Madrid, the Madrid City Council, and the Chamber of Commerce.

“Madrid is an incredible city with amazing sporting and cultural heritage. Today's announcement begins an exciting new chapter for F1 in Spain,” said Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, adds this “enticing prospect” of F1 racing in Madrid aligns well with the FIA’s upcoming 2026 regulations for Net Zero carbon.

Isabel Diaz Ayuso, President of the Region of Madrid, adds that the event "will represent an increase of more than 450 million euros in Madrid's GDP per year and the creation of 8,200 jobs."

The Grand Prix is a pivotal move into the future for Madrid, placing it among other world-renowned host cities and providing a unique opportunity to drive transformation and showcase Madrid's capabilities.

“F1 deserves a city with the energy, character, and passion of Madrid,” asserted Jose Luis Martinez-Almeida, Mayor of Madrid on this exciting announcement.
