The 2023 Miami Grand Prix qualifying session ended abruptly after Charles Leclerc's Ferrari number 16 crashed into the barriers, causing a red flag to be shown. The Monegasque driver lost control of the SF-23 single-seater while trying to improve his lap time and challenge Sergio Perez for pole position.
Following the crash, Ferrari mechanics completed their first checks on the SF-23 car to ensure that the impact did not damage the engine or gearbox components. They had already removed the gearbox for further checks the previous evening.
According to Formula 1 journalist and tech analyst Giuliano Duchessa, the initial checks suggest that everything is okay with the car's PU and gearbox. However, some components may still be replaced as a precaution.

Fortunately, it appears that Leclerc's error did not cause any significant damage to the car, and there should be no risk of replacements or possible grid penalties for the race. As of now, Leclerc is set to start the Miami Grand Prix from seventh place, ahead of Max Verstappen in ninth.
