Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso had another strong race at the Miami Grand Prix, finishing in third place and securing his fourth podium in five races this season. While the team is thrilled with their success, Alonso admits that they now want more. "At the beginning of the year a podium was amazing. Now after four podiums, we want obviously more, and at least a second place," he said.
Despite their impressive performance, Alonso acknowledges that it will be difficult to challenge Red Bull for first place, as they continue to dominate the sport. "The two Red Bulls are always unbreakable, and they are always super fast," he said. "But as I said maybe Monaco, maybe Barcelona we have a possibility."
While Red Bull remain out of reach for now, Alonso and the Aston Martin team are focused on maintaining their momentum and continuing to perform well in the upcoming races. "We take the podium and going into the triple-header of Imola, Monaco and Barcelona, at which hopefully we can keep on going," he said.
Alonso has been consistently performing well this season, having scored 15 points in every race weekend so far. He currently sits in third place in the driver standings with 75 points, ahead of Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton who has 56 points.
The Miami Grand Prix was a relatively uneventful race for Alonso, who found himself in no man's land between Perez's Red Bull and George Russell's Mercedes. Despite this, Alonso was impressed with his teammate Lance Stroll's performance and even took the time to compliment him on a tidy overtake he had spotted on the big screens around the Miami International Autodrome.
"A little bit of a lonely race today and nothing really to do in front of us with the Red Bulls and behind us," Alonso said. "Maybe we did expect a little bit stronger opposition, but the Ferraris were a bit worse than expected today. So yeah, it's never easy, but it was a lonely race."
While Alonso is happy with his team's progress, he knows that they still have a lot of work to do before they can truly challenge Red Bull for first place. With the next few races coming up quickly, including the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in just two weeks' time, Alonso and the Aston Martin team will need to stay focused and continue to work hard if they want to achieve more success this season.
